The sector pages are covering the eight sectors that the majority of companies fall into from the most occurring markets in Europe (AEX, CAC, DAX, Eurostoxx, SMI) and North America (Dow Jones, S&P, NASDAQ). The analysis is set up in a similar fashion as the index analysis, although some graphs are left out due to the challenges of comparing across different currencies.
Automotive
The automotive industry consists of companies that have been around for a long time such as Ford and General Motors, but newcomers focusing on electric cars like Tesla are having a big presence as well. Supplier of part such as tires from Michelin and Continental are also included.
Biopharma
The sector with an enormous impact on human health includes companies active in medication, healthcare products, vaccines and active ingredients. The pharmaceutical giants that are covered include Eli Lilly, Merck, Pfizer and many others.
Energy
One of the most fundamental contributors to modern society keeping it running. Contains all related to energy such as mining, infrastructure and service providers. With a focus on climate change and a move towards sustainable energy resources, there are many changes going on. Despite these efforts, the classic energy resources remain important. Some of its household names include ExxonMobil, Shell and TotalEnergies.
Finance
The finance sector contains a variety of companies including payments, loan providers, banking, insurance and investment funds. Technology has become a large part of modernization of the finance sector. Some examples of leading companies are ING, Goldman Sachs and UBS Group.
Household and Personal Goods
This is the sector that influences our daily lives the most. From the clothes that we wear, food we consume and the luxury products we adore. Their names can be lesser known such as Beiersdorf, but some are common household names like Heineken and Nike or the luxury products of LVMH and Richemont.
Manufacturing and Engineering
A large category that consists of companies that are active in developing new solutions or manufacturing on a large scale. These include construction (building, materials and equipment), chemicals and infrastructure. Examples of chemistry companies include Air Liquide and Akzo Nobel. Included are also the engineering companies Caterpillar and Siemens.
Retail
A sector that undergoes large changes but are essential for us. A combination of brick-and-mortar shops, online retailers and niche services. A company like Amazon can be both retail and technology, But Home Depot, McDonald’s and Walmart are mostly retail.
Technology
A sector that is often seen as being responsible for innovation and economic growth. Contains some companies that have been around for decades and several new ones. They can be active in software development, telecom, medical equipment or IT. These include your well-known giants Alphabet, Meta Platforms, Microsoft and NVIDIA.
